About
Short bio
tenThing was founded in the spring of 2007, and artistic director for
the ensemble is Tine Thing Helseth. Tine had a huge breakthrough in
May 2006 when she was awarded 2nd prize in the “Eurovision Young
Musicians Competition 2006″. She is now reckoned to be one of the
biggest names in the domain of the classical trumpet both at a
national and international level.
tenThing has strong ties to the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where several of the members have studied or still studies. The tireless work put down by Arnulf Naur Nilsen in both cultivating and promoting the brass milieu in Oslo in general, and at Barratt Due in particular, remains a great inspiration for the
musicians of tenThing.
The fact that a large share of the young, up-and-coming brass players
in Norway at present are female gave birth to the idea of starting
a strictly female ten-piece brass ensemble residing at a high level
both on a national and international scale.
Profile
tenThing wants to be an ensemble where all the musicians, by way
of their individual instrumental qualities, contribute to collective
artistic expression which more than anything else emphazises group
interplay.
tenThing desires, through a varied repertoire, to provide for great
experiences of live music that the listeners will not easily forget!
